Who We Are

In 2019, Jill Shook, the author of “Making Housing Happen: Faith Based Affordable Housing Models,” a book about a broad spectrum of churches, each using a unique model of providing affordable housing, sensed a nudging that she could play a part in helping churches do the same in Southern California. She turned to her friend Phil Burns, an urban planner, who also had the strong sense that this moment had been prepared for a special, new endeavor. Through what can only be described as providential, Jill and Phil were soon joined by a diverse and capable team - including Andre White and John Oh - to support religious congregations in developing affordable housing on their land.

Since that time, this team has supported more than 35 congregations in visioning, feasibility and partnerships toward the development of affordable housing and community-supporting ministries on their land. Recognizing that we owe our existence to a divine movement, we work in gratitude and service. While we are based in Christian principles, we serve religious congregations of all faiths and seek the welfare of our cities for all people, no matter their faith perspective.

Core Values

1. Congregations have value. In a world where people are disconnected from each other and from their Creator, we believe that the work of religious congregations is essential, and healthy, missional congregations will always be critical for the flourishing of society.

3. Affordability. We recognize housing as a human right and seek to maximize affordable housing within the constraints of each project that we work on.

5. Good neighbor. We facilitate the development of projects that not only help communities thrive, but also benefit landowners.

2. Land Stewardship. The Earth is the Lord’s and is meant to be used for the good of all people, and we are called to take care of it. (Gen 1:28)

4. Consensus. While we recognize that executive decisions sometimes must be made, we seek consensus before making decisions. We value diversity of perspectives to help us discern the best solutions. (Proverbs 15:22)

6. Excellence. We seek excellence in the work we do, delivering the best quality work with the highest level of responsibility to congregations and communities. (Colossians 3:23)
